About Esha

Founded in January 2005 by Nidhi Arora – an IIM Calcutta alumnus, Esha is a non-profit initiative striving to help the blind in small ways that make a big difference.
We are a team of volunteers spread across the country, who believe in equal opportunities for the blind and work towards the same.

Our core activities include:

  • Devising innovative ways and means of sustainable livelihood for the blind, to make them self-reliant and independent
  • Activities to sensitise the non-blind towards the special skills and needs of the blind.
  • Creating Knowledge Resources that are available to the visually challenged at all times, through the CLABIL project.
  • Empowerment of the visually challenged through the use of technology.
  • Partnering with various corporates to help them meet their Corporate Social Responsibility objectives by:
    • Making their corporate communications inclusive
    • Helping them make their work spaces inclusive – a nice-to-have that will be a necessity before we realise it.
    • Generating employment for the blind

Your Contribution

We love it when you help in any of these ways.

  • Braille enable your visiting cards. It’s a small investment with big returns.

  • Use Sensitisation Theater Workshops instead of your old, routine team building activities. Your attendees(students/employees/friends) will find it a refreshing change.

  • Ensure that all the spaces around you are accessible to the disabled. This is easy to do with a small Accessibility Audit and a few modifications to most existing spaces. You’ll be surprised at how little it costs. If a space is being designed(e.g., a new house, a new building etc.), speak to Access Consultants for pointers.

  • Spread the word. Talk to other people about Esha and its activities. Link us to your website, your blog, wherever.

We at Esha have a driven volunteer base and at the same time are looking for more like-DNA volunteers to further our cause.

We have many volunteer opportunities that are available throughout the year. 3. Gum

    4. Buttons to mark capitals.

  • Outreach program for Senior Citizens - Reach out to senior citizen groups in RWAs, Kitty Parties and other relevant groups, and inform them about CLABIL through a live demo. Positions all over India .

  • Recording for CLABIL: Krishna Sobti(Hindi): Ae Ladki.

  • Recording for CLABIL: Ghalib ki Gazalein

  • Blind Walk: Be a Blind Walk Co ordinator in an area near you. Run the activity in your own colony, with a set of friends, or anywhere at all. Use it as a party game, or as a fun activity. Send us pictures, or post them on facebook. We need to do 10 Blind Walks across India in a month.

Customer Speak

I really think everyone should get this done. Everyone.

- Javed Habib / Director

My interaction with Esha has been both a rejuvenating and a humbling experience not to speak of the direct benefits that accrued to me and my organization (SAP). My participation in the theatre workshop was an incredible experience which enabled a heightened appreciation and respect for those among us who are differently abled and challenged. It also brought about an acute awareness of how much we take our senses for granted and made me really want to use these God given gifts to much better effect.
